This is the first Stephanie Laurens book that I read. I got frustrated reading this book. She described everything in painstaking detail. I ended up skimming a lot of the book for this reason. The first person point of view changing from paragraph to paragraph was distracting.The heroine was super annoying with an inflated sense of self importance. She doesn’t want to marry Devil, but she believes that she’s entitled to help solve his murder? Eye roll....I might have been mire sympathetic to her if I knew why she won’t marry him earlier than was stated. And....she doesn’t want to marry him but then got mad at him when he didn’t pay enough attention to her? Another eye roll...I could go on and on with examples of how obnoxious and annoying she was through the novel.And the whole “I won’t marry you/You’re going to marry me” thing got really old. Almost the entire first half of the book is exclusively this interaction between Honoria and Devil. Nothing else happened except a small, little murder that wasn’t really focused on. Another eye roll....I didn’t finish reading the book. I just couldn’t do it. I have never read Stephanie Laurens but had heard that The Cynsters was THE series to read. I am really struggling to get through this book.1. Her writing style is stilted and awkward and she endlessly repeats certain points she is making. If I heard Devil describe himself as a great conquerer and brag about the evidently limitless nobility and entitlement of the Cynster family thoughout England's history one more time, I was going to add the book to my DNF pile. It almost made me giggle a few times, he was so pompous.2. I did not care for Honoria. She was imperious and a walking advertisement of everything negative in being a member of the Ton.3. Endless sex scenes. I mean on and on...4. As others have mentioned, no one seemed particularly grieved about Tolly's death, except his parents. Honoria kept wondering why Devil and one other brother wore their black arm bands so long, like it was weird to do so. Plus, I thought it was a full year of mourning for close family members, but it seemed like the Cynsters (including Honoria) couldn't wait to start their season, regardless.I will finish the book as I am almost done, but will probably not read any more of the series.
